The history of the department

In accordance with the regulations on personnel of higher educational institutions of the USSR, approved by order of the Minister of higher and secondary special education of the USSR, dated 30 October 1974 the faculty of foreign languages was organized. The faculty of foreign languages in 1975 had two departments: English and German languages. And the first recruitment on specialty English language was conducted in 1967 with the plan of reception of 50 people, when a branch of English language was functioning at the faculty of Philology. From 1967 to 1984, the preparation of specialists has been carried out in one of the languages (English or German). Since 1984, the faculty was preparing teachers in two specialties: English and German, German and English with study duration of 5 years.

Training in of EP 6B01706 – Foreign language: two foreign languages, EP 7M01706 – Foreign language: two foreign languages is carried out by the Department of English and German languages.

The Department of English and German languages work in the structure of the Philological Faculty of the ARU named after K. Zhubanov. The mission of the department is to form a qualified specialist and a “perfect person” who has absorbed national values.

The training is conducted in the state and Russian languages in full-time and full-time with the use of distance technologies. Duration of training: on the basis of secondary general education – 4 years, on the basis of secondary vocational education – 3 years, on the basis of higher education – 2 years.

In 2019, the Master’s degree program EP 7M01706-Foreign language: two foreign languages was opened. In the 2022-2023 academic year, the contingent of undergraduates in EP 7M01706-Foreign language: two foreign languages amounted to 74 undergraduates.

Currently, EP 6B01706 – Foreign language: two foreign languages, 636 students are studying, including 527 full-time students, 103 of them under a state educational grant, 68 under the Serpin program, 12 rural quota, holders of the rector’s grant -1, holders of the akim’s grant -26, which is 40% of the total number of students, based on the contract – 317 students. 109 students are studying full-time with the use of distance technologies, including 5 under a state educational grant, 104 on the basis of an agreement. At EP 7M01706-Foreign language: two foreign languages, 74 undergraduates are studying, including 22 under a state educational grant, which is 30% of the total number of undergraduates. On a contractual basis – 51 undergraduates.

The teaching staff of EP 6B01706 is a foreign language: two foreign languages include 22 full-time or 9 freelance workers, 2 of them with a PhD degree, 1 Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), 14 with an academic master’s degree. The increase in settling down is expected at the expense of teachers who have completed doctoral studies (Zhumakhanova A.Zh.) and postgraduate studies of the Russian Federation (Sideshova Z.G).

According to EP 7M01706-Foreign language: two foreign languages, the educational process is conducted by 4 full-time, 9 freelance teaching staff, including 2 professors, 5 Doctors of Philosophy (PhD), 2 candidates of sciences, with the title of associate professor – 3 teaching staff. The degree of EP is 100%. The average age of teaching staff at the department is 40 years.

From the moment of creation to the present time, the Department of English and German languages have constantly confirmed the desire and ability to integrate into the global educational space, when the quality of education turns into the most important factor of the competitiveness of the university and its graduates.

Accredited educational programs annually participate in the National Ratings of the EP, which are conducted by the Independent Agency for Accreditation and Rating (NAAR), the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs “Atameken”.

In November 2017, the Independent Agency for Accreditation and Rating of the Republic of Kazakhstan conducted specialized accreditation for EP 6B01706-Foreign language: two foreign languages. By the decision of the Accreditation Council of the NAAR dated November 20, 2017, it was accredited for a period of 5 years. Registration number no. AB1390.

In the rating of educational programs of the Republic of Kazakhstan (NAAR RK) in 2019, EP 6B01706-Foreign language: two foreign languages took 13th place, in 2020 – 16th place, and in 2021 – 10th place.

In the 2019 ranking of educational programs of universities, conducted jointly with the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs “Atameken”, EP 6B01706-Foreign language: two foreign languages took 13th place, in the 2020 ranking – 11th place, in the 2021 ranking – 19th place.
