Educational and scientific activities of the department

The faculty at the Department is actively adopting innovative pedagogical technologies in the educational process at the Regional Center for Advanced Training of Education Workers (RCAT EW) at Zhubanov University and in the Scientific and Pedagogical Center (SPC) “University-School.” They regularly participate in ongoing methodological seminars at the university.

The Department traditionally organizes international, regional, and republican methodological seminars to expand the application of innovative technologies in teaching Russian language and literature and to facilitate the exchange of experiences. These include regional seminars such as “The Use and Implementation of Innovative Teaching Methods” (2015), “News of Science and Education: Research Work of Master’s Students, Problems and Prospects” (2016), an international seminar “Multilingual Personality in Modern Educational Process” in collaboration with Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar” (Bulgaria) in March 2017, a round table on “Modernization of Public Consciousness” (June 2017), a regional methodological seminar “Experience of Implementing Criterion Assessment within the Education Content Update” (November 2017), and a traditional international scientific and practical online seminar “Philology: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow” in December 2017, dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the department veteran, candidate of pedagogical sciences Adorova N.V., and in December 2018, dedicated to the 70th anniversary of associate professor, candidate of philological sciences Terekova F.E. The proceedings of these seminars have been published in collections.

International Scientific and Practical Online Seminar “Philology: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow” in Honor of the 70th Anniversary of Associate Professor, Candidate of Philological Sciences Terekova F.E. (2018)

On January 25, 2018, an International Scientific and Practical Seminar “Multilingualism as an Important Direction in the Culture of Intercultural Communication: Problems, Trends, Prospects” was held. It was the result of research conducted by faculty members of higher and secondary specialized educational institutions, employees of research and methodological institutes, school teachers, postgraduates, undergraduates, and students.

On February 21, 2018, a methodological seminar “Language Personality and Effective Communication in the Modern Multicultural World” was conducted. Social demands require universities to prepare specialists of a new format – multicultural individuals capable of social and professional self-determination, knowledgeable about the history and traditions of their people, proficient in multiple languages, capable of communicative and activity operations in three languages in all situations, and aspiring to self-development and self-improvement. The goal of the seminar was to discuss the issues of forming a language personality in a multicultural world.

These seminars involved faculty members from universities and colleges, school teachers, and employees of educational institutions. All of this constitutes the main part of the career guidance work of the department.

Traditionally, the Department of Russian Philology and Intercultural Communication organizes an educational co-working event “Form of Control in the Context of the Updated Education Content.” The purpose of the co-working event is to introduce a fundamentally new form of organizing innovative activities for teachers, creating an educational space, exchanging experiences among university teachers and school teachers of Russian language and literature regarding the organization of the educational process, and preparing philology students for teaching practice. Faculty members and teachers from branch schools actively participated in the co-working event.

On October 30, 2020, an educational and methodological online seminar “Experience of Implementing Criterion Assessment within the Education Content Update” was organized. The seminar aimed to identify the features and effective teaching methods and criterion assessment of students in the context of updating the education content, including in online mode. It also facilitated the exchange of experiences among university teachers and school teachers of Russian language and literature regarding the organization of the educational process and the preparation of philology students for teaching practice.

The significance of this meeting was motivated by the fact that school teachers invited to the seminar shared their experience of teaching in a distance mode with students. They provided specific examples of formative and summative assessment and discussed the specifics of criterion assessment of students in accordance with the presented topics on Russian language and literature.

On November 4, 2022, an educational and methodological seminar “Ways to Improve Functional Literacy in Russian Language and Literature Lessons” was organized. The seminar aimed to identify the features of teaching Russian language and literature and effective ways to develop functional literacy in students in the context of updating the education content. It also facilitated the exchange of experiences among faculty members and teachers of basic secondary schools and branch schools, preparing philology students for teaching practice in the conditions of dual education.

On April 17, 2023, a workshop “Innovative Activities of a School and University Teacher” was held. The goal of the workshop was to uncover the specifics of using digital educational tools in school and university teaching practices, teach participants to develop test tasks and interactive exercises.
