Educational Work
Traditionally, various competitions, the “Slavic Bazaar” festival, poetic evenings at the “Literary Cafe,” meetings with prominent figures of the city and region in the “Zhuravlik” press club, folklore and dialectological expeditions are held at the faculty. The faculty also publishes a “Literary Almanac” with creative works of students who have tried themselves in various prose and poetic literary genres. The department hosts the dramatic club “Inspiration,” which stages performances based on works by famous authors and students. Over the club’s existence, numerous interesting, informative, and developmental events have been organized for the student audience. Primarily, these are musical-poetic compositions dedicated to the anniversaries of writers and poets such as M.V. Lomonosov, A.S. Pushkin, F.I. Tyutchev, M.I. Tsvetaeva, F.M. Dostoevsky, A.P. Chekhov, S.A. Yesenin, B.L. Pasternak, B. Akhmadulina, L.N. Tolstoy. Students of the Philological Faculty, actively participating in the preparation and conduct of these events, discovered the creativity and personalities of famous authors in a new way. Dramatic compositions were staged based on Grigory Gorin’s plays “Formula of Love,” F.M. Dostoevsky’s novel “Crime and Punishment,” A.P. Chekhov’s farce “The Bear,” and works by William Shakespeare. The connection with the regional drama theater named after T. Akhtanova is constant and rich. Students not only attend performances by the Russian troupe but also meet with actors, discuss performances, and write reviews. Students of the department’s educational programs have met with interesting creative personalities: poets, artists, and actors from our city. In December 2018, with the aim of popularizing the work of Aktobe journalist, translator, and poet Amantay Utegenov, the opening of a cabinet in his name took place at the Philological Faculty. Within this event, the “Poetic Marathon in Memory of A. Utegenov” was held, in which students of the faculty, as well as students from schools and colleges, participated.

Traditionally, students of the Russian Department of the Philology Faculty participate in the celebration of Slavic Literature and Culture Day and Easter. The annually organized “Slavic Bazaar” at the department, dedicated to the Day of Slavic Literature and Culture, gathers not only students and faculty but also representatives from Ukrainian, Russian, and Belarusian cultural centers from the House of Friendship. Students and guests present a concert, reciting poems honoring the founders of the Slavic alphabet, performing songs from Slavic nations, compositions from the contemporary folk-rock band “Melnitsa,” participating in traditional dances, and showcasing their knowledge of the history of the Russian language and Old Slavic script.

For many, the philology faculty is often associated solely with the teaching profession. However, it is far from the truth. The philology faculty serves as the foundation for self-realization as a journalist. Undoubtedly, journalism as a profession has been known since ancient times. The history of journalism can largely be considered the history of refinement, development, and establishment of the reporting genre. In May 2022, the Department of Russian Philology and Intercultural Communication organized a meeting for 3rd-year students of the educational program 6B02304 – Philology: Russian Philology with the correspondent of “Channel 7” in the Aktobe region, Elmira Yerzhanova. Elmira Bekbolatovna shared insights about the specifics of reporting and the basics of its preparation with the future journalists. The meeting took place in a warm and informal atmosphere.

Employment of Our Graduates
The Department of Russian Philology and Intercultural Communication carries out activities in accordance with the employment organization plan, which outlines the main directions of work with graduates.
According to the employment plan, inquiries are sent to district education departments and the city employment office regarding the availability of vacancies in specific specialties.
One of the directions of the educational work of group curators is to assist in employment issues after university graduation. Throughout the year, curators hold meetings, counseling sessions, explain the employment procedures, guide graduates on how to compose resumes, and inform them about the duties and rights of graduates who move to rural areas for work. Subsequently, group curators track the employment of their graduates through written means (certificates, arrival notes) and verbally (via phone).
Many graduates who completed their pre-diploma practice in rural preschools and schools expressed a desire to return to their hometowns as certified professionals.
Analyzing the employment indicators of graduates over the past years by training directions, it is evident that the highest number of graduates in the “Education” direction have found employment. Graduates of educational programs 6B01702 – “Russian Language and Literature” and 6B01704 – “Russian Language and Literature in Schools with Non-Russian Language of Instruction” are employed at a rate of 95%, with 90% working in rural schools in the Aktobe region.
